 Beekeeping with Nature

We specialise in the production  of native Welsh Honey Bee Nuclei ('nucs') and Welsh Wild Flower Honey.
We produce our bee nuclei in the spring from our own naturally mated Welsh queen bees, which have been selected over generations to be docile, productive and over-winter well.
Our Wild flower honey is unique to our local area, as it is "Raw Honey" ie. unadulterated in any way, so that the honey you taste from the jar is identical to that from the honeycomb, with all the natural enzymes and nutrients unharmed.

Our Honey Our Philosophy

At Pentwyn Farm we believe in beekeeping with natureOur bee hives are permanently situated around the Monmouthshire countryside in South Wales.

Our Honey is summer wild flower honey and comes in (weather permitting!) between July and August .
Pentwyn Farm honey is unique within the Monmouthshire area, as it is never mixed with other honey - also spun from the honey comb, gently 'cold filtered' so that all the natural goodness remains in the honey ...where it should be.

We take great pride in its delicate floral taste which is a true taste of summer!  We work sympathetically with the natural life cycle of bees and only collect honey from hives that can spare it.

Native Welsh Bee Nucs and Colonies

Every year we produce between 50-100 native welsh bee nuclei ('nucs'). These are produced from our own native, fully  inspected, welsh bees stocks.

Our resulting home mated queen beelines are great honey producers, are very hardy in the winter and  they they are docile to handle.

More excitingly we have over the last 6 years developed bee stocks that have a natural resistance to varroa mite. We believe that bees should not be treated with chemicals
We want our organic stock to be as nature intended with minimal intervention by man

They are excellent bees for both beginners, and more experienced bee keepers.

The number of bee nucs are limited so please contact me via email to reserve a Nuc for collection in Spring 2023.
We also have full colonies ready for collection in September 2023 (see our Nuc and Colony page).

A final bit about me!

I first got into beekeeping 13 years ago; I am also a scientist and a GP.

Preservation of our native honey bee stocks is very dear to my heart and that is why I produce native welsh bee queens.  Our bees are better able to cope with the wet and windy British Weather conditions than imported queens.

I'm also an advocate of buying locally produced honey.  Locally sourced honey contains natural pollens from wild flowers in the surrounding area, and is excellent for the prevention of hay fever in the summer.
